Company Profile

More than thirty years ago, a young artist began to carve in wood the village themes of Rajasthan as she saw them. Then, she and her small group of villagers would transfer these unique designs, through warm colours onto sarees. The beauty and quality of the work became known to a small group of connoisseurs in Jaipur. And to the amazement of the creators, these wonderful people from the big city, wanted to buy them.

So was born Lishkara. A fashion label which the young artist had meant only to be a fulfillment of her own artistic talent.

Soon, people were asking Lishkara to make all sorts of finery for them. Ethnic garments, skirts, jackets, exclusively printed dress fabrics, exquisite shawls, bed and table linen, quilts, and especially tapestry.

Because Lishkara was never meant to be an industry, but a way of life. A new school of art built on the traditional themes of the Rajasthani tradition. Birds and animals. Flowers. Geometric patterns. Infused with the traditional bandhani and lahriya expressions of Jaipur.

So, for the present, Lishkara is concerned almost exclusively with table and bed linen, and furnishing fabrics.
