DR. HILLY N. KARANI
Philly was born in Rawal indhi in 1939. His father being in the army he has travelled all over India and idely travelled worldwide
He did his M.B.B.S. and Master of Surgery from the Poona University. He is the Fellow of the International College of Surgeons, Association of Surgeons of India and the Royal Society of Health and a member of numerous Professional Organizations. He is also the Past President of the Indian Association of Occupational Health at Pune. He has presented
numerous Scientific papers both at National & International Conferences.
He has authored a book on "Cancer Chemotherapy". He is a Consultant
Surgeon and a visiting surgeon to various hospitals and a Consultant to numerous Industries.
He is a keen sportsman, having represented College in Badminton, Tennis, Table Tennis, Cricket d Hockey and represented both the State and University in Badminton. He was the National Junior Badminton Champion in 1954. In the NCC he rose to the highest rank of Cadet Adjutant for
the State of Maharashtra. He was a adjudged Best Cadet & Best Shot on numerous occassions. He was the Bombay State Junior Rifle Shooting Champion.
He was a Charter member of the Rotary Club of Pune Central
and Charter President of the Rotary Club of Poona Downtown. During his
year as President the Club was awarded a record of 6 District Trophies
and the Rotary International Presedential Citation. He was adjudged the
Most Outstanding Rotarian in the District in 1989 and led the District
GSE team to Queensland, Australia in 1990. He is a Multiple Paul Harris
Fellow. The District Nominating Committee commended him as District Governor
for the year 95-96 and he was elect unanimously and had an outstanding
year m office.
He is the recipient of Rotary International's "President's
Golden Century Citation". For his outstanding contribution the Trustees
if the Rotary Foundation have awarded the Citation for Meritorious Service.
As well as "The Distinguished Service Award". Last year he was
recognized as a Distinguished Past District Governor.
He has been R I Preside t's Representative to 2 District
Conferences. He has been on the R l Rotara Committee for 3 years, this
year as the Chairman. He is a memebr of the Redistricting Committee for
India & has been elected to represent his District at the next R I Council
on Legislation.
For the past 35 years he been the Community Representative
for the Experiment in International Living, and a member of the
National Council. He is the Honorary Treasurer or the Poona Blind Men's
Association for the past 30 years. He is a keen, active and senior Freemason.
He is a Trustee on numerous Religious, Educational & Charitable Institutions.
He is married to Yasmin and is a father of a son Darius,
daughter Anahita & is now a grandfather. |
